I have made an apple mummy because we have been reading about Ancient Egypt lots lately. I wanted to see how they made the mummies, so we made our own. We used salt, bi-carb soda, a bandage, and an apple to do it. If you would like to do it this is what you need to do.
- Peel one apple
- Remove the core and cut it in half
- Carve a face into each half (my Mum did that for me)
- Put one half of the apple on a plate and set it aside
- Put the other half in a bowl with bi-carb and salt, coat it very well
- Wrap the salty bi-carb apple in a bandage very tightly and put it on the plate near the other half
- In one week, unwrap the the mummy apple and see how different they are
The brown apple is the one that was mummified. It stayed the same size, the other one shrank lots. It got all shrivelled and yucky, but not the mummified one. I found it very very interesting. I imagine what my apple would look like if I put it in a sarcophagus and left it there for 3000 years!
